Having taught in person and virtual lessons for over 22 years, I have found many benefits to virtual lessons.
Some of these include:
Educational: The ability to supplement lessons with included PDF's, audio / video examples to refer back to and the ability to practice material immediately upon completion of the lesson, which helps the student retain the material learned.
Convenience: Online lessons eliminate the need for commuting to and from lesson locations allowing more time for practice and other activities.
Accessibility: Availability to your teacher for questions between regularly scheduled lessons and the ability to take lessons where ever you have access to Wi-Fi.
Flexible Scheduling: Online lessons allow for much greater range of times for lessons and ease of rescheduling when needed.
Tips for success:
I recommend a large screen for lessons, a tablet or bigger is preferred. A phone is not the best viewing or listening option.
Set your camera up to allow full view of your instrument and both hands.
A good quality microphone, camera, and playback speakers will greatly improve your lesson experience.
Please tune your instrument before the lesson to allow for more time learning.
Zoom allows for optimization of audio for music instruments under settings. Please make the appropriate adjustments for the best audio quality.
Daily practice! Even 15 minutes a day can show results!
